General Questions
Where in Shawnigan Lake are you located?
Integral Health & Wellness is located at 101-1760 Shawnigan Lake – Mill Bay Road (Not to be confused with 1760 Shawnigan Lake Road) in the heart of Shawnigan Lake Village. We are on the corner of Shawnigan Lake – Mill Bay Road and Dundas Road across from Oma’s Bakery.
Is there parking available?
Yes! There is a customer parking lot accessible off of Dundas Road as well as street parking.
What do I need to know about my first visit?
Prior to your first visit for your appointment, we will send you an online intake form to complete before arriving. If you are unable to fill out the online intake form you should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to your first appointment.
The forms include contact information, health-history questionnaire, reason for seeking treatment and information for any health insurance you would like billed. 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment you will receive a COVID-19 self-assessment form. This MUST be completed prior to you entering the clinic.
Is my personal information secure?
Yes! Your healthcare records are kept secure at Integral Health & Wellness on behalf of our practitioners in accordance with BC law Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), public sector and the Personal information Protection Act (PIPA), private sector.
What should I wear?
For Athletic Therapy and Osteopathy treatments wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in. For Acupuncture and Massage Therapy treatments it will depend on you, the patient and what you are comfortable with.
While most Acupuncture and Massage Therapy rely on skin-to-skin contact to be effective, your comfort comes first and our practitioners will accommodate you.
All treatments are done using appropriate draping techniques, and your privacy will be respected.
Do you do direct billing?
Direct billing is available depending on your provider. In order to access your benefits through individual provider web portals we will need your consent.
How much coverage do I have left? Can you check?
The amount you pay depends on your provider and deductible and benefits: portals are much like a credit card terminal, and we cannot see how much of your annual amounts are available.
Do we accept Worksafe claims?
No, at this time we do not accept Worksafe claims.
Do we accept ICBC claims?
Yes, our practitioners accept claims for ICBC. You can start treatment as soon as you submit a claim and receive an ICBC claim number. As long as you have not already consulted with other practitioners for this claim you are pre-approved and partially covered.
What is your cancellation policy?
At integral Health & Wellness we have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you are unable to make an appointment and give less than 24-hour notice the full amount of your appointment will be charged.
Please let us know as soon as possible when you are unable to make an appointment. You can easily cancel any appointment by logging into your account, emailing us or calling us.
What if I miss my appointment?
Missing your appointment would be considered a late cancellation. All appointments missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be subject to the full cost of the appointment.
What if I am late for my appointment?
Please do your best to inform us of your ETA if you know you’re going to be unavoidably late. We would rather you come in for some treatment if possible.
Are tips expected?
No, unlike in a spa setting where tips are accepted, it is not necessary to tip a healthcare practitioner in a clinical setting.
I booked a 60-minute appointment. Will I get 60-minutes of hands-on treatment?
No, as healthcare professionals our practitioners take your health seriously. In order to provide you with the best possible care all appointments will have some time allotted to interview, assessment and follow-up.
This time usually can be anywhere from 5-15 minutes but varies depending on your needs and the therapists discretion.
About Our Services
Massage Therapy
Massage therapists assess soft tissues and joints of the body to identify and help prevent dysfunctions, injuries, pain and physical disorders. Therapeutic massage helps to increase mobility, decrease muscle spasms and pain, improve circulation, and encourage relaxation.
Athletic Therapy
Athletic therapists treat musculoskeletal conditions using various manual therapies, exercise prescriptions, and procedures, including bracing and taping. The goal of an Athletic Therapist is to facilitate patients’ return to their desired activity level. It is suitable for everyone, whether you want to walk to your mailbox or run a marathon.
Manual Osteopathy
Osteopathy seeks to restore balance by removing obstacles which interfere with the body’s innate potential. Osteopathic practitioners use their hands to mobilize joints and manipulate visceral organs or subtle workings of the cranial-sacral mechanism.
Osteopathy regards the body functions as a whole and aims to bring the body into harmony. This client centered approach involves gentle palpation to ascertain the root of a person’s dysfunction.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that is based on the theory that energy, called chi (“Chee”), flows through and around your body along pathways called meridians. Chi’s balance greatly influences the mental, physical, spiritual and emotional part of the self. Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances one’s chi and is responsible for the rise in symptoms and disease.
Health Coaching
Health coaches empower their clients by providing individualized integrative protocols to create and reach their goals in practical ways. They give the much-needed support and accountability to make changes to improve physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual health. Visits include reviewing health history and current health status, creating goals with realistic timelines and discussing step-by-step strategies.
Non-Registered Relaxation Massage
A Relaxation Massage is the most common and best-known type of massage. This massage is performed using Swedish techniques consisting of long, rhythmic strokes and small circular movements with pressure that varies from light to medium to firm. Muscle kneading will be used throughout to help work out tense muscles, while friction may be applied with fingertips, knuckles and the thumb if the muscle requires deeper pressure. Your massage worker will adjust the pressure according to your sensitivity and preference.
Please Note: Non-registered massage is not billable to insurance companies.
